Summary
This was a highly collaborative project to design a sophisticated human-resources management app. At the time I was working at Design Culture who were commissioned by another agency, Better Brief, to help with the design work.
My input was primarily designing the user interface visuals. The high level structural design work was undertaken by Better Brief and I worked closely with them to interpret the client’s requirements. This was done in the old way of mocking up screens in PhotoShop, based on pre-designed wireframes, which meant an incredible amount of PSDs were generated. It was a huge task to keep on top of the consistency of design style, while ensuring that all changes were incorporated at every level.
This is one of the last monolithic web-design projects that I worked on to use the wireframes-to-PhotoShop workflow. It was clear that the process was slow, complex and inefficient. Although the project was completed on time, the greatest thing I learned is that browser-based prototyping and development is a much better way to develop complex web apps, and I’m glad we’ve finally moved on from PhotoShop as a web-design tool.
